LifExt-2 Research Project

HiFIT is a partner in the LifeExt-2-Implementation project which is built upon the knowledge and the technical development produced in the research project “LifeExt”. Funding is provided by INFRASWEDEN 2030 and the project comprises partners from the client (Trafikverket), universities and research institutes (Chalmers, KTH and Swerim) as well as from industry (HiFit, Dekra and Wintera).

LifeExt-2 is an implementation project that aims at providing technical guidelines on the application of post-weld treatment methods for extending the fatigue life of existing welded steel bridges. These guidelines will cover the definition of pre-requirement for applying post-weld treatment techniques, description of the method of application and guidelines for verification and quality assurance. The project duration is 2 ½ years with start in June 2021.
